My name is Melissa, and I'm a NYer who lives 20-30 minutes south of San Francisco, CA. I have a daughter, Maya who was born 8/10/04. I have always had a love of food, and cooking. I used to "play kitchen" while watching Julia Child- I remember doing this at an early age of 4. I seriously have always LOVED cooking shows, and watch Food Network daily. Because my mom knows only how to cook from recipes, powders, packets, etc. Not to mention has bland tastes, and never cooked what she didn't like (which is most foods except meat & potatoes & frozen veggies), I had to teach myself to cook. As I taught myself, I experimented (and was constantly made fun of by my mom, she would call my cooking "Concoctions") and eventually became a skilled cook. I am the type of person who can "feel" like something, check the fridge & cabinets & find a way to whip whatever up. I also realized there are TONS of people in the world like me, and they have become renowned chefs. Recently I decided, once my daughter goes to 1st grade (in 2 years), I am finally going to follow my dream and go to culinary school. Wish me luck!
