  • Bring water to boil in a small sauce pan.
  • Combine sugar and cornstarch.
  • Stir well.
  • Add sugar mixture to boiling water.
  • Reduce heat to medium, stirring constantly or until mixture thickens.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Add butter, vanilla, and salt.
  • Stir until butter melts.

    I made this exactly by the recipe and it's just perfect! I used it in my rice pudding because it needed some extra flavor and moisture!!

    Great with bread pudding, especially if you add 1/2 tsp. nutmeg. Just like the recipe in my old 1967 Betty Crocker cookbook, so you know it's a classic. Served over Bread Pudding #31212
