Instead of regular peanut butter, I used cranberry coconut peanut butter (yum butter brand) and rolled these in a small amount of powdered sugar. I also substituted ground flax seed for the wheat germ, since that is what I had, and added a tablespoon of vanilla-flavored hemp protein powder for added nutrition. These were so good, I had to box them up for the neighbors to prevent myself from eating them all. You will feel like you earned these if eaten after sledding or snow shoveling, with some nice hot chocolate or coffee!

I changed this so much the first time to accommodate what I had on hand that I don't want to rate it (even though my changes worked out fairly well). But I do want to mark it for later to make right!

After reading several excellent reviews for this recipe, I've been eager to make these for awhile now. I followed the recipe exactly and added 1/4 quick oats... had my hubby try them first, he said they were awful! I tried one... a little too much cocoa taste for me. So, I added coconut... still not very good. I read a few more reviews, determined to like these highly rated snacks! I added a little dark rum and rolled them in powdered sugar... better but still not great. I'm so bummed! I'm going to take them to our dinner party tonight and see what people think. Maybe it's just our taste. ;-)

I was looking for a way to use some of my wheat germ, and came across this versatile and very yummy recipe! What a great and healthy way to snack!
