Taco salad is always a sure thing. This one is nice because the kidney beans add a little extra "meatiness." This is great for a picnic or gathering. I usually wouldn't choose catalina dressing for taco salad, but I must admit, I liked it. Like most taco salads, it's best eaten the same day it's made. Thanx for sharing!

I gave this recipe 4 stars. My family really liked this recipe. My brother makes a taco salad like this. When I made this recipe I used 2 pounds of ground beef. I only used 1/2 head of lettuce. I left out the black olives as my future hubby is the only one who likes them. I used the tortilla chips and the Catalina dressing. I didn't chill the salad before serving and as my ground beef had been cooled down enough that I could mix everything together. The only complaint I have about this salad is the next day the lettuce and tortillas got real soggy. I think the next time I make this salad I'll mix all the salad supplies, but mix in our own bowls the tortillas and the dressing to taste unless I plan on taking this to a gathering as it makes a large amount. Thanks for posting a great recipe! Christine (internetnut)

My son and I liked this salad, but my daughter said it was too sweet. I made it a day ahead (except the chips) and it was a bit watery. I misread the ingredients and thought it said 3/4-1 cup of dressing (not bottle) which is about how much I had left. I made Recipe #53763 for the rest. It does say "sweet" but I didn't think it was any sweeter than the bottled stuff. I used "original" Doritos (the cheese ones). I think "plain" Doritos are just a brand of tortilla chips and are not available on the east coast of US, AFAIK. I used a head of green leaf lettuce and chopped it rather than shredding.

This made a great salad and everyone at the potluck I took it too really enjoyed it. I did make a few changes. I discovered I didn't have any black or kidney beans so I used garbanzo. I didn't have any black olives so I used green. But it still turned out great! Thanks so much, I will definately make this again!
