This was a great one pot meal! I realised when I went to make it calls for canned mushrooms that you can drain and in Australia they are mostly pureed. That still worked well but obviously made the sauce a little thinner than it would have been, but the extra sauce was terrific soaked up with some mashed potato. Steak came out super tender and it's a recipe with plenty of scope for variations.
I didn't have a gravy like in the photo. Maybe I should have done something for it, maybe add cornstarch. Maybe I should have drain the cans of tomatoes. I used fresh mushrooms. Maybe this made too much juices. I cooked it 1 hour and the meat was not tender like I thought it would be. My fault. Next time I'll check before. Thanks Sally :) Made for Zaar Star Game.
This delicious recipe truly lives up to its name in tenderness. I could pierce it with my baby's plastic, safety fork. And the flavor was incredible. So rich! And yet lively and bright -- not heavy at all. I did it in a cast iron pan with a little olive oil for browning and substituted about 1 tsp of Kitchen Bouquet for the Worchestershire sauce because I'd run out.
