Spicy Molasses Crinkle Cookies

This recipe is wonderful. Easy, tasty, perfect-looking cookies every time, and the way your house smells while they're baking is heavenly. Let the kids help by rolling the dough into balls and into the granulated sugar.

- 1 cup sugar
- 3⁄4 cup shortening
- 1⁄4 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 cups flour
- 2 1⁄2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
directions
- Heat oven to 350.
- In large mixer bowl, beat the sugar, shortening,molasses and egg at medium speed until well blended. Add the remaining ingredients and mix at low speed until a soft dough forms.
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in a dish of granulated sugar and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie/baking sheets.
- Bake 10-12 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!

Wonderful taste from all the spices. I got 45 cookies, they baked for 10 minutes and they do spread a lot. The finished cookie was extremely soft. More cake-like than a cookie. I had to put parchment paper between the layers of cookies otherwise they would clump together. <br/>Thanks for posting.Reply
