Simmering Potpourri

"This is the recipe my MIL gave me years ago for Simmering Potpourri. Use it for a delightful way to freshen the air. Usually used around the holidays."

• Ingredients: 14
• Yields: 8 cups

ingredients

• 1⁄2 cup orrisroot chips
• 15 drops cinnamon oil
• 10 drops clove oil
• 5 drops orange oil
• 1 cup broken cinnamon stick
• 1 cup whole allspice
• 1 cup dried orange peel
• 1 cup bay leaf
• 1 cup coriander
• 1 cup mint
• 1⁄2 cup whole cloves
• 1⁄2 cup star anise
• 1⁄2 cup pine needles
• 1⁄2 cup rosemary

directions

1. Combine first 4 ingredients in small bowl.
2. Combine next 10 ingredients in large bowl.
3. Stir two mixtures together.
4. To scent air, put 1/3 of the potpourri mixture in 4 cups of water, boil, reduce heat and simmer.
5. Add water as needed.

Bev, This is the best simmering potpourri recipe I've come across! It's winter here in South Africa, cold and raining, and I made the recipe and simmered it on Sumday when the house was filled with visitors - it cheered us all and added warmth to the day. Sweet, earthy and rich. Thanks.
