directions

  • Put all the ingredients, except the raisins, in a saucepan.
  • Simmer over medium heat until prunes soften, stirring occasionally, about 12 minutes.
  • Remove cinnamon stick.
  • Spoon into serving bowl and stir in raisins.
  • Let stand atleast 2 hours to blend flavours (can be prepared up to 1 week ahead; refrigerate).
  • Serve cool or at room temperature.
  • Note: To make these a little more decadent, you could serve in a pretty, fancy glass, with a dollop of greek yoghurt, creme fraiche, or sour cream and a sprinkling of crushed pistachios.

  1. Every once in a while, your DH surprises you by doing something so totally unpredictable. I'm not sure why, but I was prepared for him not to like this dish much. I was so wrong! I found it a little too sweet, but he devoured it w/gusto! I took a pic, but it doesn't begin to compare w/the 1 you already have. Thx Ev. — Jun 5, 2006

  3. mmmmm mmmm good, these didn't even get a chance to get cold before they were being snacked on...now what are we going to have with our dinner? You just really gotta try these, they are keepers for sure.

  4. This is soooo good! We are trying to eat "healthy" and this is that category! I served it at room temperature and we really liked it. Thanks for a keeper.

  5. I love prunes and this is a delightful recipe. I had had some in the cupboard for a while so I just did a search and came up with this recipe. I used Maderia wine instead of Port. Love the cinnamon and I used fresh orange juice as called for. Definately a do again - Thanks Evelyn

I moved out here many, many years ago from Ottawa, Canada - so I am blessed in having two wonderful heritages! I suffer from compulsive obsessive behaviour with regard to food and my psychiatrist thought it would be a good idea to find a 'society' where many have the same problem and try to find a cure. So far, I've copied a couple of thousand recipes from this site and my psychiatrist has thrown the towel in and refuses to answer the phone when I call. What did I do wrong? Got 3 kids that keep me on the go - 10 and under at this point (2008) - I may not get round to updating this for a few years, so you'll have to do your own maths. I teach English full-time and Greek Cookery part-time. I would like to make the cooking part of it full-time and the English Grammar part of it part-time. That's all for now.
