I've made this several times, and always with raving success. I took a 9x13 into work (used 6 cups apples, everything the same). They devoured it so fast and was thrilled to have it hot out of the oven. I put it all together night before. Next morning I tossed in over then went and got ready for work. Grabbed it out of oven and slipped it into my thermal carrying case and drove to work (an hour away). They got it pipping hot.

Another thing we did was mix up the apples with the spices and sugar, tossed them into a gallon freezer ziplock bag. Gave it a toss to coat then let the air our and rezip. Store them in the freezer (we have 13 done this way). Take out and microwave the apples to precook them for about 10-15 minutes. This keeps them from becoming chewy or tough. Finish off with the topping then bake. Nobody could tell the freezer ones from fresh apples.

Very imppressed with recipe, and so good for a dish on the go. Freezes so well. A keeper!

My ENTIRE family loved this. I didn't use baking apples, and they still turned out very soft. The only problem I had was getting the top to brown. I had to bake for 10 more minutes. But the taste was superior!! I loved the cinnamon-y taste. Would be GREAT with vanilla ice cream. made for Spring PAC,2011.
