Pepsi Pork Roast

"This recipe sounds strange and tastes wonderful. We have experimented with other brands of soda, but none worked as well. You can also cook potatoes and carrots with the roast for a complete meal."

Reviews

  1. First let me start by saying it tasted great and the family loved it. It was so easy to prepare. I used the entire pkg. of Lipton Onion Mushroom Soup. I didn't find that the whole can of Pepsi was too much like some others. I love having extra gravy. It tasted so good on the Mashed Potatoes. Usually pork is dry no matter how you cook it but this turned out juicy and tender. I will be making this dish often.

  2. This is a great recipe! I have made it weekly since I discovered it. Flavor is wonderful and works with a variety of pork cuts. So easy to make in the crock pot. Tastes wonderful with rice or potatoes. SO EASY!

  3. This is a delicious recipe. The roast is tasty and it makes wonderful gravy for mashed potatoes. Definately a keeper. Thank you for sharing.

  4. What a great recipe. I used boneless rolled pork roast. The meat was so tender and the gravy was finger lickin good. Thanks Mysterygirl. A very easy way to make a delicious roast.

  5. I made this tonight and it was excellent. I used the crockpot and cooked it on low for about 7 1/2 hours and used a little less pepsi. The gravy was so good. My husband loved it too.

Tweaks

  1. I have made this recipe twice now, with fantastic results. I also used the entire package of onion soup, both times, but only because I didn't feel like having the open packet laying around. The first time I made this, I followed the recipe totally, except subbing Coke for Pepsi. I am a die-hard Coke fan, and would never have Pepsi in my house ;) It turned out great. So very tender and moist. Pork roast can sometimes be dry, and this was not at all. The second time I made this, I subbed the mushroom soup for a golden mushroom soup, and also the onion soup for a beefy onion soup packet. The second time had a rich gravy, slightly different. I think I did prefer the original version myself. There was so much nice gravy both times. I noticed it took a little more cornstarch to make it thicken, and I assume it's from the soda. Not a big deal at all, because this is worth it. The first time, we had mashed potatoes with the roast and gravy. I used the leftovers from the first batch to make a different spin on a traditional Sheppard's pie. Fantastic! The second time, I used the leftovers with wide egg noodles. All the kids liked it. Even my DD who is anti-pork. We just told her it was a regular roast beef pot roast ;) Cheers!

  2. I made my own onion soup mix and cream of soup and then made the roast. I used coke instead of pepsi, as it is a little sweeter and it turned out really tasty and the roast was fall apart tender. The family and I really enjoyed it and It will be made again!

  3. I loved this recipe; I thought that regular cola was way too sweet. So, I use Diet Coke and I love it! I also make regular roast beef too. Yum!

  4. Instead of cola, I like to use root beer when making pork roast in the crock pot.

  5. Yummy! My DH couldn't stop complimenting this dish. Used coke instead of pepsi, and added carrots and half an onion. Didn't bother thickening the gravy, just strained the fat and chunks out and poured it over the meat and a side of garlic mashed potatoes. Couldn't have been a better Sunday meal! Thanks! Update: Have made this MANY times since my first review and it's still one of our favorites. Works well with pork OR beef, and I've found that caffeine free Pepsi provides our favorite flavor. I now make this with 3-4 potatoes, one sliced onion, full 12 oz of soda and full package of onion soup mix. We love the gravy and are glad to have plenty left to use with leftovers.
