Outrageous Chocolate Cookies or Bars

"These delicious bars are a family recipe. They are a great combination of chocolate and peanut butter - and the best part is, they use ingredients you usually have on hand. Whenever we take them to parties, they vanish in a flash. To make cookies, drop the dough 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes at same temperature."

  1. Eliza, these are dangerously delicious!! I made as is (making bar cookie), but used regular old fashioned oats since that's what I had on hand. They worked fine. These make a very thick bar cookie, so you can use a slightly larger pan if you would prefer them a little more fluffy. I did also sub light margarine which I usually do as well. These are fantastic and will be made again!! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe! Made for Zaar Cookbook Tag Game.

  2. I think these are marvelous! They recipe is easy and simple as well as being easily moldable to each persons preferences. Like I used brown sugar and honey...only 1/2 stick of butter added 1/4 flour and they turned out fluffy moist and fabulous! I will use this as a base recipe over and over!

  3. I'm not sure why, but my kids did not enjoy these at all. I couldn't pin-point the reason why I didn't care for these either. I had to throw out half the dish after 5 days of not being consumed. So, I won't be making these again. Thanks for sharing, though.

  4. Really tasty! I doubled the recipe, and the dough fit well in a 11x15 cookie sheet. I used M&M's along with the chocolate chips. I also used slightly less oats, as I was afraid the bars might be dry. Good peanut butter flavor, along with the chocolate. Thanks for a great recipe!

  5. I LOVE this recipe, and have baked the bars several times exactly as written. They taste great and are a quick, easy way to get a cookie fix! The bars are also great warm from the oven, topped with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Your recipe has become a favorite at our house. Thanks for posting it!
