  • On stovetop, add flour to dry saucepan and toast on low heat until you smell that it is heated and toasted (similiar to how you would toast sesame seeds).
  • Add nutritional yeast and then add oil, stirring constantly on medium heat.
  • Heat until simmering--keep stirin'!
  • Gradually add water and soy sauce, stirring all the while.
  • Stir until thick and add your favorite spices.

  1. I made this to go with dinner at the commune so the vegetarian folk would have something to eat rather than just chicken gravy. even the meat eaters ended up liking it, though :)

  2. Yum! so easy but delicious. I'm not really sure if I toasted the flour well, but it turned out great. I made it just as described, but may try tinkering with it a little in the future. Thanks!

  3. this is so simple and soooo good. I was known as the best gravy maker amongst my friends before becoming a vegan and they were all worried at what my gravy would taste like at Thanksgiving but they were all so happy with this.

  4. Oh my! this was just wonderful!!! I cold eat it all by itself :D I did add 12oz of mushrooms, but that was the only change. I will be making this often, thanks for sharing the recipe Lindsey!

  5. This is almost identical to what I do, although I use vegetable broth whenever available or mushrooms/garlic/onion saute'd then simmered in water. I will also add soy milk to make it even more creamy.

Hi! One of my favorite hobbies is cooking. I prefer to cook vegetarian foods and, every once in a while, I try to make some of my sistas favorite vegan recipes. I spend my time riding bicycles, working on other peoples bikes, snowshoeing, snowboarding, reading, camping, and playin' b-ball. If I could do whatever I wanted to do, I'd probably spend the bulk of my time traveling, learning new crafts, and hanging with my amigos.
