- 1⁄4 cup butter
- 1⁄4 cup shortening
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 1⁄2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 cup hot water
directions
- Cream together butter, shortening and sugar.
- Add egg and molasses, mix until smooth.
- Add dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves.
- Add hot water and beat until smooth.
- Pour into a prepared 9x9 baking pan.
- Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes.
