  • Cream together butter, shortening and sugar.
  • Add egg and molasses, mix until smooth.
  • Add dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves.
  • Add hot water and beat until smooth.
  • Pour into a prepared 9x9 baking pan.
  • Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes.

  1. My mother was from Berwick N.S and made this cake with the hot vinegar sauce, delicious. Vinegar Sauce 1 cup sugar 1 tbsp flour 1 cup water (boiling) 1 tbsp butter 2 tbsp vinegar
