I'm not sure where the original recipe comes from, but my mom gave me the BEST chocolate frosting recipe. Once you try this, I doubt you will ever use another. Seriously.

Very chocolatey and impressively simple! I didn't want to use chocolate chips though, so I instead added another half cup of sugar, used 1/3 cup of milk instead of 1/4, and replaced the chips with a 1/2 cup of cocoa. It turned out quite well. I haven't eaten it with the brownies yet, but it looks delicious. The only reason I don't give it five stars, is that I wish it was thicker. Perhaps if I'd used the chips it would be. Like 'genus' said, it is a bit grainy. Maybe half powdered sugar would solve that. I'm not sure. But all in all, very good!Reply

Delicious! After reading Roosie's review, I opted to only use a half cup of sugar. I tasted it, and it was plenty sweet for me. I poured it on top of Coconut Cake with Coconut Syrup recipe #28041 by Mirj which I filled with Danish-almond filling recipe #54148 by MEAN CHEF. I'll be using this recipe again, but only using a half cup of sugar. Thank you for a great recipe.Reply

VERY easy ganche-like frosting, however, I found it to be a little sweet for my taste. Next time I would use a higher quality chocolate chip and a smaller amount of sugar. Still not bad, it just could have been better. I used this to frost Double Chocolate Brownies (#51225), which weren't that good, but the fudge-like texture of this frosting and the way it sort of seeps in to whatever you frost with it made them much better. Thanks for posting. This recipe is particularly nice because it is made from ingredients that are readily on-hand. I will probably be making this again.1Reply
