ingredients

  • 12 cup packed brown sugar
  • 14 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup (I have subbed this out with extra molasses, honey and agave in the past, all with great results)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • 14 teaspoon baking soda
  • 14 teaspoon almond extract (I have subbed out vanilla in the past)
  • 5 cups miniature pretzels
  • 1 cup salted peanuts (unsalted is fine too)

directions

  • In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and molasses. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 45-50 seconds or until the butter is melted; stir.
  • Microwave 15-25 seconds longer or until mixture boils. Immediately stir in the salt, baking soda and extract (mixture will foam).
  • Stir in pretzels and peanuts. Microwave on high for 20-30 seconds or until pretzels and nuts are well coated, stirring twice.
  • Spread into a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. pan. (If I use unsalted peanuts, I sprinkle some extra sea salt on the top of the mixture). Cool for 15 minutes, stirring twice. Store in an airtight container.

  1. Made this 7 am this morning. You get three "yes" votes from us. I prefer not to use corn syrup, and I was going to substitute honey but I couldn't find it, so I used maple syrup and it worked fine. Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

  2. This is way too easy! It's only about 5 minutes to throw together with ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. I even used up hardened chunks of brown sugar...it melts just fine with the butter. Yummy treat!

  3. My almost 8 year old daughter wanted a recipe she could make mostly on her own. I found this one and she approved. She only needed me for a few minor things, and this turned out well. Her review "It was really good and I liked the sauce the best."

  4. There use to be a snack out there that was similar to this one minus the peanuts. By the same company that makes Crunch-n-Munch. The pretzels were a toffee glaze. This is similar and wonderful. I"m so so happy I came across this JB.:-) This came together in no-time with the use of the microwave. Great idea.! Made for Veg-n-Swap.

  5. WHAT A GREAT TASTING SNACK THIS IS! I really appreciated the ease of preparation here AND the wonderful tasting munchies! I did use dark brown sugar along with dark molasses, & that turned out so well! Will definitely be making this again as part of my holiday gift package! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
