Quick Microwave Caramel Popcorn

"One of my students brought this to class to share with the kids for a party.The kids devoured it and I liked it so much I got it as a gift for Christmas! EDIT: Please make sure to watch this very closely as you may need to cut back the cooking time depending on the power of your microwave. Also- Please see Mamophet's review. I don't recommend reducing this recipe- If you absolutely must reduce it, please use accurate measurements in order to have edible popcorn. The ratio of popcorn to caramel needs to be maintained and the cooking time should be reduced as well."

• Ingredients: 5
• Yields: 20 cups

ingredients

• 20 cups microwave popped popcorn (each regular pkg is 10 cups)
• 1⁄2 cup butter
• 1⁄4 cup honey
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking soda

directions

1. Pop popcorn and pour into a brown paper bag.
2. Put all ingredients except soda and popcorn into a bowl and microwave on high for 3 minutes.
3. Stir, and microwave 3 minutes more.
4. Stir, add soda, and stir again.
5. Pour over popcorn in paper bag and stir to coat evenly.
6. Fold top of bag, microwave 1 minute, stir well.
7. Microwave 1 minute, stir.
8. Microwave 30 seconds, stir.
9. Microwave 30 seconds, stir.
10. Pour onto foil to cool.

I did a batch for christmas gift. I put corn sirop instead of honey and i didn't use a brown paper but just put everything in a big bowl. They turn out amazing, all my family loved it. They said it tasted even better than the store's caramel popcorn.<br/>Gotta do it again!

It’s really delicious but do not use a paper bag in the microwave!! Mine instantly caught on fire!! I got it out on time without catching my kitchen on fire, lucky I was standing there watching it!! Use a bowl instead and you’ll have a delicious treat!!

Had to lower the microwave time to two minutes instead of three. I stirred in a bowl instead of shaking in a bag because I didn't have one. Other than that ... perfection! Thank you cookiedog for a very good recipe.

This was some yummy popcorn! I took it to a new year's eve party and everyone gave compliments, thanks to you! It was easy and had a great taste with the honey.

LOVE IT! I did change a few measurements and ingredients because of others reviews and availability of some items in my kitchen. I changed the honey to light Karo syrup (my honey was old so I had to throw it out), added 1/2 teaspoon of salt and reduced the baking soda to 3/4 teaspoon. I kept all times exactly as the original recipe using an 800 watt microwave.
