Kate's Best Brownies

"This recipe was in a magazine article containing celebrity recipes and is Katherine Hepburn's recipe for brownies. I have used it for years and may have adjust the ingredients to my own satisfaction."

• Yields: 16 squares

ingredients

• 1⁄4 cup unsalted butter
• 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
• 2 eggs
• 1 cup sugar
• 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1⁄2 cup flour
• 1⁄2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

directions

1. Preheat oven to 350°.
2. Spray bottom of an 8-inch square baking pan with Baker's Joy.
3. Melt together butter and chocolate in small pan over low heat; remove from heat.
4. Beat eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla in small mixer bowl at medium speed until very light (about 5 minutes).
5. Beat in chocolate mixture.
6. Blend in flour.
7. Fold in walnuts.
8. Spread in prepared pan.
9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
10. Top will have a shiny crust.
11. Cool in pan on wire rack.
12. Cut into squares.

These are very good brownies. They have a rich chocolate flavor! I cooked them for 27 minutes and think they were a little over-cooked because the edges were dry. I will try them again, cooking between 22-24 minutes. Thanks so much for this dessert!
