Reviews

  1. Simple refreshing salad that works well with my spicy tikka masala recipe. I have to agree with another reviewer that there is something missing, more on the sweeter side. Next time, I may add honey instead of sugar, carrots and green pepper. Thank you for the posting.

  2. I used English cucumbers and Greek yogurt. This made an excellent addition to an Indian themed dinner. Thanks much for a great recipe.

  3. Very very good!! I used spenda instead of sugar (I don't know why lol) Really liked this salad! Thank you *Parsley*

  4. My grandmother used to make this a lot, but she never added any sugar, Lemon juice, mint or cumin...She used to add Just cut up chilli, onions, cucumber, yogurt and salt. This version tastes much nicer, as the lemon and mint give it a nice refreshing kick. I also used low fat yogurt, but it was still wonderful. Thanks!

  5. All reviews are great to their authors. The issue is that this is an Indian recipe. As such, the ingredients are quite correct to the recipe and taste of Indian food to those wanting to experience the taste of India. If you want the true taste, stick with the recipe. If you want to make your own cucumber salad, feel free. Just know that it will have nothing to do with being raita or even resembling it.

Tweaks

  1. very soothing to my stomach during my chemo! used greek yogurt, increased lemon, omitted sugar, DID add cucumber seeds when using the little round cucumbers (the flesh around them was tastier), DID add exact cumin amount (it was sufficient), didn't have mint but did NOT replace with dill or basil.. still absolutely delicious! sorry to use this tweak space for private notes, but needed to because food.com STILL (after a few years!) hasn't fixed access to "private notes." 2. Lovely and simple. Following some other reviewers' suggestions, I used Greek yogurt and substituted honey for the sugar. I find fresh mint an overwhelming flavor, so I used a fraction of the amount called for -- maybe three leaves, minced very fine.

  3. A very strong 4 1/2 stars with honey instead of sugar taking previous reviews into consideration. The mint is good in this and shouldn't be left out! We had this along with Recipe #274086, Recipe #231601 and Balkan (thick) yogurt. Made for India -- More Than Just Curries Tag Game -- March 2010.
