Homemade Popsicles

"A friend gave me this recipe and it is a great treat for the kiddos, especially in the spring and summer! Easier to make if you have popsicle molds (available at most dollar stores and from Tupperware), but you can get away with using 3 ounce paper cups and craft sticks or plastic spoons. Plan ahead, as they need to freeze for several hours."

 • Combine gelatin, drink mix, sugar and boiling water in a 2 quart pitcher.
 • Stir until dissolved.
 • Add cold water to make 2 quarts.

 1. Karen, these were great! My kids couldn't wait to get their hands on them. They were very easy to prepare! I used grape kool aid and grape jello. Exciting, huh? :) I didn't want to spring any funky flavor combos on my kids, they can be picky. Anyway, they taste great, and I will be making these all summer! Thanks for posting!

 2. Excellent flavour! My toddlers loved them. I'll need to buy extra popsicle moulds because these make a huge amount. I used cherry kool-aid/cherry jello. Thanks for sharing!

 3. We have a winner! My grandsons (5 & 2) say these are toooo good.I discovered you can half the ingredients if you have little ones that dont like the same kind. It comes out to 1/2 c.jello and 1/2 tea. koolaid and 1/2 cup sugar. You can still use the cup full of water to disolve. Then add water to make 1 quart. I use my 4 cup mearsuring cup to do everything.

 4. These aren't just for the kids... lol I had used this before and forgot to rate it, sorry... will definitely make up for it now.. The kid loves these things. I use the larger plastic dixie cups. She's a teenager so she will eat more of them than three ounces... lol Anyway She loves every flavor and like another reviewer I have used splenda, sugar and even honey as a sweetener.. Note if you use honey you need to put it in the pan too... Anyway, the reason I say these aren't just for kids is I was making up a batch and knew I would be in the yard all day working. It's rather hot outside... so I just poured some UV vanilla vodka in the cooling mixture, maybe 4 shots... and when they were done... I had to mark the cups and told the kid she couldn't have those those were mommies.. lol Excellent idea and recipe.. sorry again for not rating earlier.. Thanks Karen for a great recipe.

I live in Pa (outside of Philadelphia) and cooking, baking, cross-stitching and reading are my hobbies.

I collect cookbooks and cookie stamps/cutters and have a pretty big collection of both. I am also a fan of all things Amish, so I have quite a collection of things picked up in Reading, Lancaster and surrounding areas here in Pennsylvania.

I have 4 kids, who are the loves of my life and cooking for them and my husband keeps me on my toes! ;)

We bought an ice cream parlor in March 04 and it's been quite an experience!

Note: I love getting feedback on my recipes; all I ask is that you actually *make* them before reviewing them.

Also, if you make changes or substitutions, I'd love to see your suggestions and/or comments, but I'd appreciate no rating at all if it's not made as posted. Too many recipe reviews state margarine subbed for butter (if I list butter, it's REAL butter), different spices, low-fat ingredients, whole wheat flour instead of white, etc. The recipes will not work/taste as intended, so it's really not fair to rate them as such.

I'd also really appreciate it if you refrain from rating a recipe if you overcook or overbake it or it you don't refrigerate or store as listed.

I, of course, will adhere to the above when rating recipes, too!

Thanks and have a great day!

My Rating System:

***** A delicious recipe that was thoroughly enjoyed. It has excellent, detailed directions and is perfect as is. If a dish is especially easy, and I'm on the fence, I will give it 5* for ease even if it's very good instead of great. Something I will definitely make again.

**** Excellent recipe but confusing directions that I will make again in my own less confusing way OR Very good recipe that I'll probably make again if I find the time!

*** Good/OK recipe but probably not something I would make again OR Very Good recipe that doesn't have clear, detailed directions.

** Recipe was edible but not really enjoyed and will not be made again. Work involved not a good trade-off for the end result.

* Not edible and probably an error in the recipe. I feel that I pick recipes with ingredients our family likes, so in my opinion, there's an error somewhere. If there's a chance I made the error, I won't rate the recipe. ;)
