Grossinger's Sweet Potato and Prune Tzimmes W/ Meat

- 1 1⁄2 lbs prunes
- 3 cups boiling water
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 3 lbs beef brisket, cut into 6 pieces
- 2 onions, diced
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon pepper
- 3 sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 1⁄2 cup honey
- 2 cloves
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
directions
- 1. Wash prunes and let them soak in the boiling water for 1/2 hour.
- 2. Heat the oil, in a dutch oven, over medium.
- 3. Brown the meat with the onions.
- 4. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- 5. Cover and cook on low heat for 1 hour.
- 6. Add the undrained prunes, sweet potatoes, honey, cloves and cinnamon.
- 7. Replace cover loosely and cook over low heat at least 2 hours ( more is better).
