- 1 1⁄4 cups boiling water
- 1⁄2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 cup quick-cooking oats
- 4 ounces German sweet chocolate
- 1 1⁄2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup sugar
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3 eggs

Topping
- 6 tablespoons butter or 6 tablespoons margarine
- 1⁄4 cup light cream or 1/4 cup condensed milk
- 3⁄4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup chopped nuts
directions
- Combine water, butter, oats, and chocolate; let sit 20 minutes.
- Sift together flour, soda, and salt.
- Add brown sugar, eggs, and oatmeal mixture to dry ingredients.
- Bake in a 9x13 inch pan for 25-35 minutes.
- Frost while hot with topping.
