Fudge Frosting/ Hot Fudge Sauce

"Originally the recipe was used as frosting for my grandma's chocolate mayonnaise cake, but also works well as a hot fudge sauce for ice cream. It's not overpowering in sweetness or flavor and I love the smooth texture. You decide or do what I did and try both. Cooking, prep, and yield is approximate."

  • Stir first five ingredients over medium low heat until thick, when it just starts to bubble.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in vanilla and butter.
  • If using as frosting let cool.
