1. I'm not going to pull the "Well I decreased the salt by 8 grains and made it even better!" And I'm not going to say that this was as good as Lay's...

...because it's better! OMG! You're looking at someone who has craved Lay's since he was a teen boy! I made your recipe tonight for my dad and best friend and they wolfed it down!

Thank you! You're a genius! :)

 2. I'm sharing a few helpful tips. I always make a double recipe as this quantity blends more evenly in my food processor. It keeps a long time in the refrigerator, that is if you have any leftover. The most important thing to remember is that you can always add but you can't take away, especially when it comes to salt in this recipe. Both refried beans and pickled jalapeños will vary in salt content from brand to brand.Add the salt LAST,after you have tasted it! I used Old El Paso Refried Beans with Green Chiles which had 550mg of salt. That's plenty for me,so I did not add any additional salt. I also used this brand because it has lard in it which adds a much richer flavor than vegetarian beans. The lard will make the dip taste much more like the old Frito Bean Dip in my opinion. My favorite brand of pickled jalapeño peppers is quite spicy,so I started with half the peppers, but all of the brine suggested. The remainder of the spices were perfect for me.If you want it more spicy or salty you can always add more. Finally, remember that this dip is best when it is allowed to sit for at least an hour to let the flavors meld. This dip was engineered to simulate the Frito Brand Bean dip, which has a distinct, albeit Americanized flavor. It is not intended to be an authentic Mexican Bean Dip which uses more fresh ingredients.Enjoy it for what it is! Hope these tips are helpful.

 3. Made this on a whim -- and because we love FL bean dip but I hate the price :). This is dead-on for a replacement. DH and his buddy who eat this cans at a time did not know it was homemade -- thought I just put a couple of cans into a chip/dip bowl to the party!!! Can't get any better than that! Thanks for posting

 4. I used to drive a route truck for Frito Lay.
Often times lunch would be a can of bean dip and a small bag of Fritos Scoups.

I gotta tell ya, this is as close as it gets! Good stuff!
It took longer to clean the food processor bowl than it did to make the dip.

Thank you for a tasty treat that isn't always available in this rural area.

 5. Made as directed with fat free refried beans. Very good and similar to the real deal.

Tweaks

 1. -Beans from scratch. -Fry 1/4cup diced/minced onion IN 2+ Tbsp BACON FAT. -Add beans to frying pan and mash......add all ingredients. (Or use processor).

 2. More brine, garlic and onion powder. No added salt.

 3. With tamed jalapenos.

 4. We didn’t have a food processor, so just cut the peppers as fine as we could. Still delicious!

 5. If you use fat free refried beans, you can add some healthy fat to this in the way of 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil and a 1/4 cup of minced cilantro and a tablespoon of ground cumin...it is awesome sauce!
