- 5 baking apples, cored, peeled and sliced
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 2 1⁄2 cups sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1⁄3 cup orange juice
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking soda
directions
- Toss apples with cinnamon and 5 tablespoons sugar; set aside.
- Mix remaining ingredients together; blend well. Pour 1/3 of the batter into a greased and floured 10" tube pan (like a bundt cake pan); layer with half of the apples. Repeat layers and pour remaining batter on top.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hours, or until a toothpick inserted in the center removes clean.
- Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes; invert tube pan and remove to cool completely.
- Frost with Brown Sugar Icing.

I prepared to cakes with this quantity: a bunt cake of about 9 inches (for give away) and a smaller rectangular one for us. After 40 minutes I reduced the heat (air forced oven) from 350°F to about 300°F to prevent surface to turn to dark. The cake was fantastic: juicy and at the same time the upper surface crunchy! A real keeper!

This is just a beautiful cake Not having sauce with it . Made for CQ 2017 I finally got my piece of cake if I could give it 10 * I would Its moist and has a little crunch on the outside I am diabetic so I try to stay away from the sauces on cakes Its bad enough I am eating the cake. I am so impressed by this cake I will make 2 more for the homeless on Saturday. Thank you Nif
