Farmer's Meatloaf

A good meatloaf, that isn't as mushy as some. The sauce really adds to it.

ingredients
- 1⁄2 cup dry breadcrumbs
- 1⁄2 cup milk
- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1⁄4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
- 1⁄2 teaspoon sage

Sauce
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1⁄4 cup ketchup
- 1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
directions
- Soak bread crumbs in milk.
- Add remaining ingredients, pack lightly into greased loaf pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
- Combine sauce ingredients in small bowl, spread over top of meat loaf.
- Bake an additional 45 minutes.
- Slice to serve.

Sometimes basic is best. That is the case with this recipe. Forget all those "gourmet" meatloaf recipes. This was absolutely yummy. And it reheated well, too. Although I was concerned that the sauce would be too sweet, the dry mustard gave it a nice snap and it was not too sweet after all. Try it!Reply
