My usual version only uses 1 stick butter. The extra butter takes it over the top! I never use the nuts. I made one blueberry and one cherry for a Memorial Day picnic! Also used a 19 oz can of crushed pineapple. Bertha, thank you for the recipe! I took some of each to my neighbor and now she also wants the recipe!!

Guess my tooth is not as sweet as other folks. The recipe fascinated me and I really wanted to try it, so I did - and was terribly disappointed. It is far too sweet for my taste. My DH did enjoy it, though - said it resembled apple crisp. Perhaps a bit of lemon juice over the fruit would help? Or maybe even using another can of fruit instead of pie filling? Sorry I can't be more accommodating in my rating of this dessert, but perhaps down the road I'll try it again.

Not something I want often, but good when you need it. Extremely sweet. Was concerned it would be too liquid b/c I used 1 can each cubed pineapple w/juice & peaches in light syrup chopped in food processor, added the bottom of a jar of strawberry preserves and orange juice to top the combo at 36 ozs (like total of pie filling and pineapple would be). Topped cake mix w/chopped almonds, and 1/2 c melted unsalted butter. Next time I think I'll try cranberry sauce instead of pie filling.

I am married and have three children ages 9 to 16. I work full-time so between work and attending as many school functions as I can possibly fit in, I have little time to prepare "gourmet" type dishes which require a lot of preparation time. I like tasty, quick-fix meals that use ingredients that are usually in my house and don't require an extra trip to the store. When I'm not waiting on my family or working, I like to do counted cross-stitch and recently started a new hobby----quilting.
