Dry Onion Soup Mix Substitute
This is similar to Recipe #110331, but without the beef bouillon. It is great for casseroles, meat dishes and crockpot meals that call for a packet of instant dry onion soup mix.
- Ready In:
- 8 teaspoons dried onion flakes
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1⁄2 teaspoon celery seed
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon sugar
- 1⁄4 teaspoon ground pepper
- Mix ingredients well.
- Store in airtight container for up to six months.

I found a sale on Chicken Thighs today and decided to make Russian chicken when I came home. Hunted high and low in my pantry for Russian dressing and Onion soup mix. OOOPs none of either. Found your recipe made with Catalina dressing (have that) then found your recipe for Onion Soup substitute with no granules. GREAT !! Now I can make my Russian Chicken without going out in the snow. I had found this soup mix recipe online somewhere else and used it to make Recipe #193685, for which it worked quite well. I then looked to see if it was posted on this site and found this one. The only difference was the one I found had twice as much dried minced onion. I am posting this review so I can find this easily later! :) Thanks!Reply
I'm proudly one of those cooks that makes sure that EVERY ingredient in a recipe is either at my home or on the list of To Buy. Imagine my surprise when I was assembling everything for a dinner and my envelope of Lipton's Onion Soup Mix was...GONE!!!! Teenage son was the culprit, having nabbed it the night before to make some dip for his mates and himself. LOL Never thinking that there could possibly be a Homemade version of this dry soup mix, I was SO surprised and happy to find THIS recipe, which had no beef soup mix (I was making a vegetarian dish, after all!) I have 100% of everything on hand, whipped up a batch for the recipe and was so pleased with the ease, cost and taste that I can forever delete Lipton's Mix from my grocery list!
