"Another recipe my mom used to make. Its different, but SO good! Definitely not like a traditional taco salad. Its a nice alternative though!"

ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped lettuce (more or less to your liking, I love lettuce and always add more)
  • 1 cup chopped tomato (more or less to your liking, I love tomatoes and always add more)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (more or less to your liking, I love cheese and always add more)
  • 1 finely chopped red onion
  • 1 (1 1/4 ounce) package taco seasoning (I use El Paso, but any will do)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can ranch style beans (you cant get these everywhere, so you can also use any brand of chilli beans)
  • 1 (16 ounce) bottle Catalina dressing
  • 1 (12 1/2 ounce) bag Doritos

directions

  • Fry ground beef and add taco seasoning.
  • Mix ground beef and ALL ingredients, except Doritos (unless you don't mind soggy), in a large bowl.
  • Refrigerate.
  • Mix in Doritos and enjoy!
  • Note: I enjoy this nice and cold from the fridge, but you may prefer it warm or room temperature.

Has anyone tried this with ranch ? No way my kids would touch Catalina dressing, and even though I don’t care for bottled ranch, the Olive Garden one is delicious. Oh and just plain pinto beans? I can’t stand chili beans..lol

Cold, really? I just can't imagine cold ground beef. An awful lot of good reviews though. I may have to try it.

This was delicious! And I don't like tacos, but the rest of my family does! Next time... less Catalina dressing, too sweet, more of everything else! Also, I served with Goya Yellow Rice. I may add that to the salad next time also. Thanks for sharing!

I have been making this for years. I use kidney beans drained. I make my own taco seasoning and instead of French dressing I use sour cream and salsa mixed together as the dressing. My kids love it and it is a hit at family reunions and cook outs

I was served this 30 yrs ago but with a few tweaks. Used onion soup mix instead of taco seasoning. A head of lettuce chopped 2 tomatoes. Olives and avocado optional but good. Also seven seas italian dressing or your own italian dressing. Have not ever tried with beans but will.Always a winner!
