I use 1/2 c. cold, STRONG, coffee instead of water, and instead of 1/2 c. cocoa I add 3/4 c. If you don't have buttermilk you can sub with 3/4 c. milk plus 2 t. lemon juice or vinegar that sits for 10 minutes before using. Make this with Sprinkles Vanilla Buttercream frosting and it is perfect for a birthday.

I made cupcakes from this recipe, turned out to be very nice moist rich tasting cake! I used buttermilk. This recipe made 14 nice sized cupcakes. I prepared them with recipe#22376, slicing the cupcake into two parts and adding a bit more icing in the middle as well. Thanks for sharing this recipe its one I will turn to when I want to make a cake as well.

I grew up on a farm and learned to cook from scratch. By age 9 I could follow a recipe. So I have been cookng for a lot of years now. Besides cooking I enjoy bible study, church, crafts, collecting rings and Christmas ornaments, reading, collecting angels and visiting with friends via E mail.
Have been married for over 30years and have four children, two of which are handicapped. The kids are all grown now and I am getting use to cooking smaller portions. Recently found out my husband has non-hodgkins-lymphomia. He will start treatment soon.
