  1. the recipe I have (passed down from my MIL) calls for cooking the mixture longer before adding the flour & rice krispies. I've submitted a correction in cooking time.

  2. I used this recipe in a local 4-H Club meeting to teach the kids (ages 8 to 14) how to make simple holiday treats. With only a stove top, it makes it possible for kids to make without a lot of worry or assistance from a parent. I only wish I had remembered to use a bit of butter on the palms of our hands when turning the blob of mix into a ball, it might have been easier for the kids to make. It was a bit messy but fun and they were all able to master making the date mixture into balls. Very simple recipe and seems just like the recipe my grandmother used to make.

  3. Really?? I lost my mom's recipe so was excited to find this 5 star one. BUT it is not forming balls!! Not staying together. Another recipe I looked at had the sugar and butter quantities exactly opposite!! Is there an error here?? Have to throw it all out!! Not happy!

  4. I've been making these for years, but with no egg or vanilla. They are sooo good, and a tradition in our family.

  5. We looked forward to this every holiday season- but we rolled in coconut, not powdered sugar.

I am a real estate paralegal who has two great passions in life: writing and baking. I grew up in PA so I enjoy trying a lot of Amish recipes, but my move to the south when I married my hubby has introduced my tastebuds to a whole new world of down-home southern cookin'. I have two beautiful little girls and one very stubborn (but spoiled) Himilayan cat. Always excited to try a new recipe.
