  1. I'm sorry but my family did not like this. I followed the recipe exactly as written and our meat had no flavor to it at all. I did add a lot of salt and pepper but I think it needed that and more while it was cooking. It smelled so good when it was cooking and I thought they gravy would draw through the meat but it didn't.

  2. An easy and tasty recipe. I don't usually like meats cooked in a crockpot, but this one proved me wrong (again). How nice it makes its own yummy gravy which makes dinnertime a snap. If you are not pressed for time, another worthwhile cube steak recipe is KathyP53's Chicken-fried Steak (#151732). Like Skeeter and a few other reviewers, I didn't like cube steak much either until I tried this one and that one!

  3. This was absolutely wonderful! I used 1 brown gravy mix and 1 mix of onion soup mix because I only had 4 cube steaks but followed the rest of the recipe. My husband and mother in law both loved it! The leftovers were even better and I of course got them, because I found the recipe! :) Thanks a bunch for sharing!

  4. I HATE cube steak and actually really liked this recipe. Hubby loved it! I couldn't find the onion mix gravy so I used the two brown gravy mixes and just some extra chopped onion flakes! A keeper! Thanks!

  5. I have made this several times now and it always turns out perfect. My husband did not like cube steak until I tried this recipe, now he asks for it all the time. Thanks so much for a great recipe.

Tweaks

  1. Yummy, but kind of tricky to prepare. I never worked with cube steaks before and mine tended to fall apart very easily when handled. I also had a problem with them sticking to the pan when I browned them in the oil. Still , very good and I will make again. Reminded the hubby and me of salisbury steak. Great with mashed potatoes, green beans and biscuits. I seasoned the flour with pepper, garlic powder and Emeril's Essence. I added 1 minced garlic clove and replaced 1/2 cup of the water (in the first 2 cups) with red wine and a little Worcestershire sauce. My cooking time was 5 hours on low and they were falling apart tender- great for my 5 year old son, he hates to chew meat but he liked this! Thanks!

  2. I have already rated this once as 5 stars, but I wanted to update my rating to note that I have not only made this over and over again with cube steaks, but have discovered that the recipe is also delicious when substituting either deer backstrap or even beef liver in place of the cube steak. So good and so easy!

  3. Excellent recipe but I think next time to give it more flavor I will substitute one cup of a hearty red wine for one of the first 2 cups of water. I'll deglaze the pan because there were good bits of "stuff" left behind. This made lots of really nice gravy and we liked it a lot.
