Cremora Fridge Tart

"This tart takes about an hour to set in the fridge and is a huge hit in our family after a BBQ. The kids are not toooooo fond of it as it has a slight lemony flavour."

  1. Followed the advice from other reviewers and cut the water down to 1/2c, and made sure it was hot to melt the creamer. I subbed coconut sweetened condensed milk and it worked fine. Gluten free coconut cookies for the tennis biscuits, also worked fine (although I will try gf graham crackers in future). I ran out of lemons, so I subbed lime juice and holy crow, this was a tasty, tasty lime tart! It was like a mellower version of key lime pie, and I would emphasize that while it was good on the day I made it, it was even better the next day (plus it had firmed up a bit more). Very happy with this recipe, and happy it was able to withstand lots of subs (because gluten/dairy sensitivities, and limited access to groceries).

  2. I think this is an acquired taste. My ex-wife used to make it for parties and it went down well. I don't like the original recipe.

  3. These were so awful that my husband threw them away. He couldn't believe that I would make a recipe using two cups of Cremora. I am diabetic but I did try a bit of it anyway, and he was right - they were pretty bad and left a film in your mouth.

  4. Quick, easy and delicious

  5. My husband and I love this tart. Although I do find that using an electric mixer gives a better result than 'combining' the cremora mix and the condensed milk mixture. It thickens almost instantly. Enjoyed this dessert after a spicy chicken curry! Highly recommended.

Tweaks

  1. I use a slightly different recipe that calls for 1 cup of cream, instead of water and only one cup of cremora. Put everything together in a bowl and whisk till firm, layer and chill. Quick, easy, delicious! I also don't bother to crush the biscuits, just layer them and make multiple layers of biscuits and filling.

  2. I used 1 cup of Cremora and substituted the 2nd cup with Regular Plain Full Cream Yoghurt which turned out tasting fantastic as it broke the extreme sweetness of the condensed milk only somewhat and complimented the rich creamy taste of the Cremora. I also used Lemon Creams instead of Tennis Biscuits as suggested by another reader, although it turned out tasty and complimented the freshly squeezed lemon juice, personally however I would rather stick with either a plain tennis biscuit crust or at most add some lemon creams to the tennis biscuits just to add that hint of lemon flavour to the crust as well, but I personally found a Lemon Cream Only crust somewhat of an overkill and a bit too sweet to my own liking although my daughter seemed not to have minded it. Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe here. It really is a classic especially with a tight budget and short notice this year on Old Christmas Eve. Happy Holidays??????????

  3. Didn't have tennis biscuits so we used Graham crackers for crust and only 1/2 cup water. When I tried with 1 cup it was very runny and would not setup. Flavor is so much like cheesecake!

  4. I added a strawberry gelatin layer with sliced berries. Plus I subbed Meyer Lemons in the base of the recipe. I feel that it elevated the flavor of the dessert. Overall very nice.
