Copycat Sweetened Condensed Milk Substitute (Paula Deen)

"Paula Deen made this on her show. It is the butter that sets this apart from other recipes. This milk is so thick and creamy you will want to eat it with a spoon (or at least I always do)! I have used this several times and it has worked like a charm. I am so happy to have this for the holidays, since it's usually the one ingredient I'm out of."

  1. This is a great recipe I love it. I stopped getting sweetened condensed milk in the cans anymore. Because I use it all year long on different recipes. Most of the store only had it at holidays.. I have told all of my friends about this recipe. Now they use it to instead of sweetened condensed milk to. I have used it with sweet-n-low & splenda. It works good on any of them. <br/>Paula Deen thank you for this recipe.

  2. I have used this recipe and love the taste. It also works well with Splenda for a no sugar added bonus. I boil the water in a sauce pan and use my hand held blender.

  3. I found that this homemade version of sweetened condensed milk did not work well in my seven layer bar recipe. It kind of disappeared into the crust, instead of becoming like a light caramel layer. I'll try one you cook next time, and see how it works out.

  4. The best recipe for sweetened condensed milk. It makes milk with perfect thicknes and sweetnes. Amount of butter can be reduced, if liked, though.

  5. It just doesn't get any easier than this.I make this version of condensed milk all the time and it is SO easy!!I make it then store it in the fridge for a few days while I look up YUMMY recipes in which to use to use it in.LOL

Hi everybody, I’ve been using “Zaar” website for the last year but ready to commit myself to adding my two cents worth (including some photos). I live with my DH and two great kids and one crazy dog in the foothills of Colorado. We have a great view with lots deer and red rocks. I come from a food-loving family, including my nearby sister who is willing to discuss "what's for dinner" first thing in the morning! I’ve loved cooking every since I was a teenager. I don’t work so I have lots of time to cook my latest craving. I love to try and duplicate dishes I enjoy from restaurants. I have a lot of cookbooks, but now use mostly “Zaar” recipes and from “Cooks Illustrated.” I love reading cookbooks (library) and like the old classics from Betty Crocker to backs of food labels. I love to research lots of recipes before I decide which one to make.
