Copycat John Alden Rollwich

"If you've ever been to Cape Cod, you've almost certainly either seen or eaten at one of the many Box Lunch franchises in the area. This is my recreation of one of their famous "Rollwiches", scaled down to fit my smaller appetite. Feel free to make this in a larger tortilla and increase the other ingredients if you desire. If you add some slices of swiss cheese, this becomes a Priscilla Alden!"

directions

  • Spread the mayonnaise on the tortilla, making sure to leave at least 1/2 inch around the outside.
  • Glop on a thin layer of cranberry sauce, but enough that it's fully covered. If you mash the cranberry sauce with a fork it seems to spread more easily.
  • Add the turkey and a thin layer of lettuce (or spinach).
  • Place the 3 tomato slices in a line down the center of the tortilla.
  • Make sure you don't fill the tortilla too full or get too close to the edge, or it won't wrap properly!
  • Carefully roll the tortilla into a wrap. Cut into two pieces, if desired.
  • Dig in and enjoy a taste of New England!

  1. I'm giving this five stars even though I left out the tomato because I didn't have one. I must admit that I tried it because of the name. John and Priscilla Mullens Alden are my many greats grandparents, so when I saw the title to this sandwich, well.......... I love the flavor of turkey and cranberry. Tart and yummy and the mayonnaise is so good with it all. Thanks, Kree, for posting this one.

  2. The tortilla is a tremendous fail compared to the Box Lunch pita. They use a huge pita cut open like um an english muffin. Forgot the diced onion also.

  3. Yummy and different.

  4. Wonderful! This is the second rollwich recipe of your's that I've tried and they're both amazing! I want to go to Cape Cod just to go to this Box Lunch place. I used a flat-out wrap on this to make wrapping easier, and kept the romaine lettuce and tomatoes. I will definitely be making this again!

  5. OMG I think I went to heaven....I found a new favourite sandwich! I made these with and without the tomatoes (as DH does not like tomatoes) and we both just loved it! (I think I do prefer it without the tomatoes though) Turkey,cranberry...what'snot to like? A very different and delicious treat! Thanks so much for posting this recipe Kree!

I'm a real estate agent in the lovely city of Rochester, New York. That's not what I expected to do with my life. I got my bachelor's in psychology, my masters in literacy education, and I taught high school special education for two years. Then I discovered that helping people find the homes of their dreams was my real passion. I've been doing it for over two years now and still absolutely love my career. Other than that, I have a very spoiled Border Collie mix named Bear that I adopted from a local shelter in spring '08. He's gorgeous and fun and brings me great joy. Now if only I could find a man like that... LOL!
