- Melt butter in a large saucaepan over medium heat; add in apple slices, stir for 1-2 minutes until well coated with the butter.
- Add in water or apple juice, lemon juice and cinnamon (if using) cover and cook stirring occasionally until the apples are tender (about 20-25 minutes, if the apples become to dry then add in 1-2 tablespoons water or apple juice).
- Once the apples are tender, stir in 4-6 tablespoons sugar (can use more or less to taste) until dissolved.
- Chill covered in refrigerator or freeze.

My DW has made this several times now and we had it with our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. So good with pork roast too! She went heavy on the cinnamon and sugar to make it really flavorful and sweet. It doesn't take long to make it and the results are so worth it! This is now a staple in our house. It's especially good cold out of the fridge!

Who says this has to be for dessert Kitten? :) We had it along with a delicious roast and gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, lemon glazed carrots, coleslaw and quick rolls. This was like the icing on the cake, and really sent the whole dinner to a new level on our plates. So so delicious! We ate a lot of it, as we ate our dinner. My DD had 3 helpings and wanted more! Good thing I doubled the recipe. Thanks Kitten!

This makes a very nice applesauce! I added a full 2 tsp of cinnamon and 4 TBS of sugar, wanting to serve this with supper rather than having it as a dessert dish. I needed to cook my apples a bit longer than the 25 minutes and given by the directions and also needed to stir frequently for them to get saucy rather than whole. Wonderful flavor and a simple recipe! Thanks, Kitten!
