Chill out Frozen Hot Chocolate

"We serve this in our ice cream parlor and it's very popular. I know there's another frozen hot chocolate recipe here, but this one is different, as it's made with hot cocoa mix."

ingredients

 • 6 fluid ounces milk
 • 12 cup hot cocoa mix (or 2 packets...we use Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate flavor)
 • 1 12 - 2 cups crushed ice cubes
 • whipped cream (optional)
 • additional hot cocoa mix (optional)

directions

 • Pour milk into blender.
 • Add hot cocoa mix and ice.
 • Blend first at low speed and then high speed until ice is finely crushed and slushy.
 • Pour into tall glass and top with whipped cream and a dusting of hot cocoa mix, if desired.
 • Serve with a straw and enjoy!
 • P.S. This recipe was originally posted using small ice cubes. At our shop we have a commercial blender that has no problem getting through these. Since most people have regular blenders, I have changed it to crushed ice.

 1. I was wanting hot chocolate but I didn't really want a warm drink, enter this recipe! I've been to Serendipity and had the famous hot chocolate and I've also used their "drink mix", while good it's also expensive. What I love about this recipe is that it says to use crushed ice! If you crush it in your blender first, then add everything it works so much better! I'll save this recipe to share with friends and family!

 2. This was easy and delicious!!!!

 3. I am soon to be 14 and I made this by myself and it was delicious

 4. This recipe was very good. However, I did modify it and it make quite an improvement. I added one cup of chocolate milk instead of white, a scoop of vanilla icecream and only 1/3 cup of hot chocolate mix. I did the rest the same. It was to die for. A great summer treat.

 5. An excellent drink to satisfy the sweet tooth! As a fan of frozen drinks (#TeamMilkshake), this chill out was to die for!

 1. Since I didn't have whip cream I used cool-whip . I also put chocolate chip morsalses in the blender. It turned out just like the frozen hot chocolates at Dunkin Donuts. It's a quick, easy, yummy recipe to make. I greatly recommended ??

 2. Instead of regular milk I used chocolate milk and added mini chocolate chips in so it tasted sort of like Starbucks chocolate chip Frappuccino and it was delicious!

I live in Pa (outside of Philadelphia) and cooking, baking, cross-stitching and reading are my hobbies.

I collect cookbooks and cookie stamps/cutters and have a pretty big collection of both. I am also a fan of all things Amish, so I have quite a collection of things picked up in Reading, Lancaster and surrounding areas here in Pennsylvania.

I have 4 kids, who are the loves of my life and cooking for them and my husband keeps me on my toes! ;)

We bought an ice cream parlor in March 04 and it's been quite an experience!

Note: I love getting feedback on my recipes; all I ask is that you actually *make* them before reviewing them.

Also, if you make changes or substitutions, I'd love to see your suggestions and/or comments, but I'd appreciate no rating at all if it's not made as posted. Too many recipe reviews state margarine subbed for butter (if I list butter, it's REAL butter), different spices, low-fat ingredients, whole wheat flour instead of white, etc. The recipes will not work/taste as intended, so it's really not fair to rate them as such.

I'd also really appreciate it if you refrain from rating a recipe if you overcook or overbake it or it you don't refrigerate or store as listed.

I, of course, will adhere to the above when rating recipes, too!

Thanks and have a great day!

My Rating System:

***** A delicious recipe that was thoroughly enjoyed. It has excellent, detailed directions and is perfect as is. If a dish is especially easy, and I'm on the fence, I will give it 5* for ease even if it's very good instead of great. Something I will definitely make again.

**** Excellent recipe but confusing directions that I will make again in my own less confusing way OR Very good recipe that I'll probably make again if I find the time!

*** Good/OK recipe but probably not something I would make again OR Very Good recipe that doesn't have clear, detailed directions.

** Recipe was edible but not really enjoyed and will not be made again. Work involved not a good trade-off for the end result.

* Not edible and probably an error in the recipe. I feel that I pick recipes with ingredients our family likes, so in my opinion, there's an error somewhere. If there's a chance I made the error, I won't rate the recipe. ;)
