Cheesy Italian Batter Breadsticks

"I can't remember where I first got this recipe, but I have had it for about 10 years. This is good for when you want to make a homemade breadstick, but don't have time to work with a yeast dough."

  1. What an excellent recipe for yeast-free bread sticks! I used an extra 1/4 cup of flour while kneading and sprinkled on some extra Parmesan before baking. We ate these with a homemade pizza sauce for dipping. Delicious! Next time I'll roll a smaller rectangle; probably a 4x12 or so. The strips of dough stretched easily, as they were being twisted, and ended up about 10-12 inches long. After the first few being too long to lay across the 9x13 baking dish, I folded the rest of the strips in half first & then twisted them. I think the short, fat twists were even better after baking than the long, thin ones. Regardless of their shapes (and I was really only concerned for the photo) these bread sticks were devoured! Thanks for sharing your recipe, Keeper! Made & enjoyed for Spring 2010 Pick A Chef. You've been adopted! :) http://www.recipezaar.com/bb/viewtopic.zsp?t=327498&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

  2. These were good, but the dough was a little sticky to work with. I added a sprinkle of freshly grated parmesan cheese to the sticks before baking. They did not come out very pretty but tasted better than they looked!! Made for Spring 2009 PAC.
