- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- 1 1⁄2 lbs beef stew meat, cubed
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄8 teaspoon pepper
- 1⁄2 teaspoon McCormick's Montreal Brand steak seasoning
- 1⁄2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1⁄2 onion, peeled and chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 6 potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 8 carrots, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 cup frozen corn kernels
- 4 cups hot water
- 3 beef bouillon cubes
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
directions
- Heat canola oil in an electric skillet, at medium high heat.
- Add beef cubes and brown on one side.
- Turn beef cubes and add onion and garlic to the skillet.
- Sprinkle with salt pepper, Montreal Steak Seasoning, and thyme.
- Layer vegetables into crock pot in order listed. (Hard root vegetables should always go in the bottom of a crockpot.).
- Add browned beef, onion, and garlic on top of the vegetables.
- Dissolve bullion in hot water and pour over ingredients in crockpot.
- Place cover on crockpot and cook on low for 8 hours. Do not stir or lift lid.
- When stew is finished cooking, mix cold water and cornstarch in a small bowl and slowly stir into stew to thicken.
