Caribbean Way Smoothie

"I found this recipe online at themommyplaybook.com. My son loves Smoothie King's version and this is supposed to be a good copy. I haven't tried it yet, but will in a few days. I just wanted to post it so I would have it accessible. **The recipe calls for papaya juice but Recipezaar changed it to papaya nectar."

  • Mix the first 4 ingredients in a blender until pureed, then add ice until the mixture becomes a smooth and thick consistency, at least 1 minute Pour into cups and enjoy. Also, it is essential that you use the Turbinado Sugar, and quality Papaya juice to achieve the same flavor of a Caribbean Way Smoothie from Smoothie King. You can use fresh or frozen fruit for the Strawberries and Bananas.
  • ~TIP~I've found that when I buy fresh fruit if I freeze it, it lasts a lot longer and I get a better consistency in my smoothie. If you freeze the bananas, peel them first, then slice them into fourths, and put them into a freezer Ziploc baggie. Their a lot easier to deal with if they are already ready to go into the blender as soon as you get them out of the freezer.

I started baking when I was young. My father had quite a sweet tooth so he was quite encouraging of my pursuits. It wasn't until after I was married and home with our first baby that I began to pursue more knowledge in "real" food preparation. That was about the time Food Network got its start. (Does anyone else remember "Ready, Set, Cook!"?) Well, I love to learn about food and techniques, but life doesn't allow for too much these days. I'm a homeschool mom of 5. Hopefully I'll figure out some Home Ec classes to teach...If I can just find that two year old, again.
