  • Preheat oven to 325°.
  • Grease a 9" sq. pan.
  • Blend 3/4 cup brown sugar, oil, egg & vanilla in large bowl.
  • Combine flour, baking soda & salt. Add to wet mixture. Add apple & buttermilk. Mix thoroughly just to moisten.
  • Spread mixture into greased pan.
  • Topping: Combine brown sugar, pecans, & cinnamon in small bowl. Sprinkle evenly over batter.
  • Bake cake at 325° for 30 to 35 mnutes.

  1. I’m the chef for a preschool and just made this recipe today x 3, and left the skins on the apples. It was Delicious! Moist!!! Cakey but so moist and scrumptious! Like a coffee cake; I had skip nuts for topping because we do not allow nuts at all in our building even for employees due to allergy risks. I highly recommend this recipe and next time I will toss in raisins. I very much appreciate recipes like this and I did toss in cinnamon in the dry ingredients. Thank you! Tried and true recipe ???? Very super yum!!
     
  2. This was a delicious recipe. The cake is moist and flavorful. The only thing I would change is to add the buttermilk to the moist ingredients before you add the flour, not after. I found it difficult to mix the buttermilk into the very stiff flour mixture. Otherwise, very tasty and easy to make.
     
  3. I simply LOVED this cake and will be making it again and again. It's easy to make—has a moist, tender crumb, and the pecans give it a nice crunch. I tweaked a bit by substituting butter for oil because I didn't have any oil. I also added 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and an 1/8 tsp nutmeg to the flour mixture.

  4. Delicious! Only thing I changed was added about a teaspoon of cinnamon. I had some streusel in the freezer, so used it instead. Will definitely make again. Yum!
     
  5. This would have been 5 stars because the result is very tasty and moist, but it loses one because the cook-time is closer to an hour than half an hour. I also made it again when I didn't have any buttermilk, substituted apple sauce and it came out great!
