Brie & Spiced Pear Paste Sandwich

ingredients
- 2 2 slices ciabatta or 2 slices of your choice bread
- 3 -4 slices brie cheese
- 30 g slice pears (for Australians, Maggie Beer's Spiced Pear Paste)
- 1⁄4 1/4 cup hazelnuts, chopped or 1/4 cup pecans, chopped, if using slices of fresh pear
- 1 pinch cinnamon, if using slices fresh pear (optional)
- 1 pinch nutmeg, if using slices fresh pear (optional)
- 1 pinch ginger powder, if using slices fresh pear (optional)
- 1⁄4 cup baby spinach leaves
directions
- Place slices of brie on a slice of bread, and spread Maggie Beer's paste on the other slice of bread.
- Sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top of the brie, add the baby spinach leaves, (and if you are unable to access Maggie Beer's Spiced Pear Paste add the slices of pear); then place the slice on which the Spiced Pear Paste has been spread on top of the slice containing the brie, walnuts and baby spinach leaves; cut the sandwich in half; put in the fridge ready to be grabbed on your way out the door next morning!
- OR if you are using slices of pear, add chopped hazelnuts or chopped pecans, add the spices of your choice, then place the other slice on top of the slice containing the brie, nuts (of your choice) and baby spinach leaves; cut the sandwich in half; put in the fridge ready to be grabbed on your way out the door next morning!
- OR, if you're enjoying this sandwich at a more leisurely pace, enjoy it when you're ready to eat it. But allowing it to sit for a while out of the fridge is essential if you want to really enjoy the brie at its best.

Simply Awesome! This is a great sandwich! Since I had no Maggie Beer, I used Recipe #55776 for the pear paste and added some chopped pecans to the sandwich as well. Buddha was astounded by the taste! For the bread, we used Recipe #330071. This sandwich is similar to a cream cheese and jelly sandwich, but is much more sophisticated with the addition of the baby spinach and pecans. And your right, it does taste great being wrapped up for a few hours as the brie just seems to get more creamy and the sandwich more dreamy! :)

This was an amazing sandwich. Simply delicious. I used fresh portugese bread, to die for French brie, that was so creamy I had difficulty slicing it...so good, anjou pears, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and pecans. So...so decadent and wonderful, I can't wait to make this treat again. Thanks so much for sharing.

This was really good. I used mashed pears and added some cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger. I have a feeling that the pear paste itself would make the sandwich out of this world. I also like the idea of using the herbed pear jam or something similar like Bird suggested but I hadn't thought of that. I think either of those ideas would take it to the next level.

July 2008 update: VERY happy to be back on Zaar after about a two year absence due to having had no internet connection at home, and having been too unwell for a time so that getting re-connected wasn't even a priority!
