  1. Absolutely delicious! Unfortunately I only got to eat one sandwich, cause hubby and son wolfed it down. Not even any leftovers! I put the diced tomatoes in the blender for a few secs and passed it off as New and Improved Manwich! Didn't tell them till they finished it was homemade! Will be making this alot Inez. Thanks for posting! :)

  2. OK, Inez, this is no longer a "one-hit wonder". We've made this twice now, have loved it and I just forgot to review it. It's easy and deee-licious ... beats the heck out of Manwiches!

  3. This is much better than Manwhich-so fresh tasting. My kids weren't so keen on the chunks of tomato so I think next time I will give them a little smoother texture by throwing the canned tomatoes in the food processor for a few seconds.

  4. EXCELLENT! I followed the directions to a T, and it had a Wonderful Flavor as is, the recipe is very aptly-named. My famiy likes sloppy joes a bit more tomatoey, and I added a 6-oz. can of tomato paste...AWESOME!! Thank-you Inez for Another KEEPER!

  5. This was a good sloppy joe recipe. It was easy to prepare and all of the ingredients are what anyone would have on hand. I liked the diced tomatoes, not something I usually add. I did find it a bit sweet, so next time I will add some black pepper and 1 or 2 crushed garlic cloves. I served these on crusty buns and made some oven fries with them - thanks for posting.

Tweaks

  1. Quick and super easy. I substituted 1/2 cup extra Catsup and 1/8 cup BBQ Sauce for diced tomatoes. Kitchen smells great and the longer you simmer the better it gets. I also added 1/4 cup of water and covered saucepan during cooking.

  2. So good and very easy to make. The only change I made was to use all ketchup instead of canned tomatoes and 1 pound of ground beef and kept the rest of the ingredients the same since there are only two of us. Nice and saucy, just like manwich only better! Thanks for a keeper MizzNez.

  3. An outstanding recipe - slightly sweet and a little tangy. I made some adjustments...I used Yves Veggie ground round instead of ground beef. As always, you couldn't even tell! And I added about 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder and a generous dash of hot sauce. I didn't have ground mustard, so I added about 1/4 tsp dijon mustard instead. I'm trying to stay away from wheat right now, so instead of serving this mix on buns, we added 1/2 cup of water to make it a little saucier and had it served over brown rice. Delicious! We'll definitely be making this one again...

  4. Whatever you do, don't use wheat buns with this recipe! The flavor disappears. I did think this would be a little more saucy, and may tweak it a bit. Used Morningstar Farms' veggie crumbles instead of beef or turkey, and it was undetectable!

  5. All I can say is ummmm good! Will never use a different sloppy joe recipe. The only thing I did different was to substitute(1)15 oz can of tomato sauce for the diced tomatoes and left out the green pepper. Everyone loved it!

After DH and I moved away from the farm, and to the city...I haven't done as much cooking and very little canning. But I do come to Zaar and look for new recipes once in a while. I'm still cooking Zaar!! I like to play at Facebook, with my family and friends. A lot of my Zaar friends are there!! Yay! It's a good way to keep in touch. We travel more. We're looking at the European trips now. Hope to go in the springtime. I really want to see London, I think I lived there in a past life, I've been obsessed with it since I was 10 years old!!
