Bennigan's Broccoli Bites

"If you've ever been to Bennigan's, you may have enjoyed this wonderful appetizer. We go there quite often for them. They're basically a blend of broccoli, cheeses, bacon, and onion, rolled in bread crumbs and deep-fried. They are then dipped in a special honey-mustard sauce. This is a copycat recipe from the website Recipe Goldmine and it's right on the money! They're very easy to make and if you want to WOW your party guests with something deliciously different, by gosh- this'll do it!"

  1. Was going to post this, but it's already here! My recipe had the "ounces" converted to "tablespoons" which is easier for me - 5 tablespoons bacon bits, 1 tablespoon minced onion, 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour.

  2. * Note: I prefer to use fresh broccoli because the freezer kind contain tough stalks and very little on the florets. I steam just a bit and chop it up, let cool, and dry out. Then do the recipe as uaual. <br/>Divine- don't be shy with the cheese and bacon.

  3. i've been thinking about how to make these for ever! i'm glad i thought to look it up, this is so different and much easier than the way i was thinking they should be made lol. i didn't exactly follow the recipe, but these were sill pretty good. next time i will follow the recipe better. main problem was i left out the bacon bits, i didn't have any and didn't feel like cooking bacon. big mistake lol. mine also needed some salt, but i expect the bacon would have helped there. instead of frozen broccoli i just chopped up some leftover steamed broccoli from the fridge. i used a cookie scoop to portion them out, then compacted each one a bit before rolling in bread crumbs. they were still a little loose so i popped them in the freezer to firm up a bit before frying and they held together great. they're a little time consuming, i think next time i'll make up a large batch of these (following the recipe lol), flash freeze, and pop in a gallon ziploc. then i can cook however many i want from frozen and not have to go through the mess. :)

  4. Absolutely delicious and easy to make! My daughter made first and used fresh broccoli. She used the florets (2 cups) keeping a little bit of the stem then cut into smaller pieces. Note: If the pieces are a little too big they won't stick together that well. She used a 12 oz. bag of mixed monterey jack and colby Cheese. And, she also used 1 1/2 teaspoons of onion powder since she doesn't like real ones. If mixture not sticking well, add an extra egg. We used the small Pampered Chef scoop to form balls. When making the dip, you could cut in half because in my opinion it makes too much for the amount of broccoli bites made from this mixture.

  5. These are fabulous!! I bought a bag of frozen chopped broccoli and chopped it up some more while it was frozen... it was really easy to do it that way. Then I ran under warm water to thaw and I dried really well with paper towels. I honestly wasn't sure we'd be able to make balls out the mixture, but I was surprised to find out that it worked very well. These were so good... I can't wait to make again!! Thank you!

I love to try new recipes and mainly look for ones that are new and different, such as a twist on an old favorite or something no one's ever thought of! I also enjoy writing in my spare time. I live in Northeast Ohio where the weather isn't the greatest, humid in the summer and cold winters- but it has been nice growing up by the lake! I own two wonderful cats who can be quite a handful at times, but my fiancee and I couldn't live without them!
