directions

  • Peel all the bananas - keep all the banana - even if "ugly" and dark.
  • I normally use 3 med to large bananas for each bag as that suits my recipe.
  • place in ziplock bags, press the air out to lay flat {or use FoodSaver if you have one - I do now ! :) }.
  • seal and freeze for up to 8 mos. (I have kept them up to 1 yr, but some people get nervous for some reason?).
  • I leave them whole and smash up when I thaw them to use in recipes.
  • Banana Breads, pancakes, cakes, drinks etc etc.
  • My sister smashes hers to the smoothness she likes and puts them in 1 cup measurements in muffin pans or plastic measuring cups and after they are frozen enough to hold shape removes them to place in ziplock bags or FoodSaver - other freezer containers could be used.
  • We used to smash them smooth and freeze in the ice cube trays for our babies as it was a good serving size, then move the cubes to containers with pop off lids to pull out just what we needed that day.
  • ( A medium sized flat Tupperware with 2cubes of banana - alongside the cubes of pureed chicken - green beans *cooked then frozen* in the diaper bag made our babysitter really happy when we took the kiddos over!).

  1. Love this idea! I normally leave mine in the peel but I never thought to peel them beforehand. This makes it easier and less messy trying to peel the banana. I used them for banana bread. Made for I Recommend Tag Game 2012.

  2. Absolutely a great idea, especially for those of us who either make smoothies regularly or who are happy enough to just mash up some of those frozen bananas, then pour a little ice cream topping over a bowl of 'em & enjoy! [Made & reviewed for the closing of Pick A Chef event]

  3. I do this all the time but I don't peel them before hand. I buy over ripe banana's at the grocery store for a reduced price then put them in the freezer until I want to make banana bread. So easy to do and the banana is the right consistancy for baking. Try it!!

  4. Great idea! I too have been putting the whole bananas, skin and all, in the freezer which is a pain to peel! Now they are easy to put right into a smoothie and I know that it will be easier to use them for baking as well. Thanks LadyOutlaw! :)

  5. This is great! I am used to putting them in the freezer, but I end up putting them in whole. This way doesn't take up nearly the room. And great idea about freezing in 1 cup measurements too!
