Baked Beans With a Kick

"Found online, these baked beans are really simple to make, and have a lovely balance of flavors. The bacon adds texture and a savoury sweet deliciousness. Since these beans are cooked uncovered, everything gets caramelized and the beans are not mush. Since every oven is different, check your beans at an hour and a half."

ingredients

• 4 slices bacon, chopped
• 1 sweet onion, chopped
• 28 ounces baked beans (1 large can)
• 1⁄4 cup barbecue sauce
• 1⁄4 cup brown sugar
• 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
• 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
• 1⁄4 cup brewed coffee

directions

1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. 2. Cook the chopped bacon in a pot over medium heat until browned (about 10 minutes).
3. 3. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon, reserving the bacon grease in the pan. Drain the bacon on paper towels.
4. 4. Add the chopped onions to the pot with the bacon grease and cook for 15 minutes over medium-low heat, or until caramelized.
5. 5. Remove the pot from the heat. Add the bacon back to the pot as well as the remaining ingredients.
6. 6. Stir it all together.
7. 7. Pour the beans into a greased 8" baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours.
8. 8. Remove the beans from the oven and let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

These beans are really delicious. Very easy to make. I cooked ours for 1 1/2 hours. The flavors of the ingredients just meld together with such a great flavor.
