  • DRESSING: Put the vinegar, mustard, and celery seeds into a medium bowl and whisk to combine. Season with salt to taste. Add the sugar and whisk vigorously until dissolved. Pour the vegetable oil in a thin stream into the bowl while whisking constantly, until it is well combined with the other ingredients and a smooth dressing is formed. Season with salt to taste and set aside.
  • COLESLAW: Put the green and red cabbages and carrots into a large bowl. Add the dressing and toss well to combine. Store the coleslaw in the refrigerator until ready to use, up to 1 day. Serve chilled.

    This was very good. I was looking for a recipe like my German grandmother's. This was close but I think it was sweeter than hers. I, too, used the packaged slaw mix. I'll try again with less sugar/more vinegar. Thanks for posting, it brought back some wonderful memories of my Grandma's cooking.

    Excellent! The only change I made was using less oil (1/3C) and a prepackaged slaw mix. Worked out beautifully. Great flavors. Made and served within 2 hours of making. YUM!

    We really enjoyed this coleslaw. It's such a nice change from my usual mayo-based dressing. I used a package of pre-shredded coleslaw mix that made this so simple to make. Thanks for sharing. Made for ZWT 6.
