  • Cookie crust.
  • combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix until thoroughly blended. Press firmly into the bottom and sides for a 9 inch pie pan, saving a handful for the top of pie.
  • Filling.
  • In a small bowl combine flour, spices, and brown sugar. Place apple slices in a large bowl. sprinkle flour mixture over the apples; toss until well mixed.
  • Transfer filling to unbaked pie crust, sprinkle the reserved crust mix over the top and pat into place. Bake in center of oven tor about 50 minutess or until apples are soft and crust is golden.

  1. I added a little salt to mix, a few walnuts. I am assuming because there is no temp. it is 350, Regardless that is my review. In the oven now. I have no doubt that it will be wonderful.
     
  2. While this pie was quite nice it seemed to be missing something. I think that the crust needs some baking soda and certainly more sugar (oops, there goes the healthy!). It did hold up nicely as a crust but really didn't taste cookie like to me. The family thought it was fine. I was unsure what temp. to bake it and used 350F. It was in the oven much longer than 50 min. and the apples didn't get as soft as I would usually expect for a pie. I would also like it more juicy (that may be due to the kind of apples, couldn't get Macs). There is no mention in the instructions of what to do with the lemon juice so I sprinkled it over the apples as I assumed it was to keep them from browning. I like the concept a lot (I have a son who hates pastry) so will work with it a bit. Thanks for posting your recipe. Reviewed for PAC Fall 2007.
