Apple Muffins (Nova Scotia Style)

"This is a very old recipe from the "Out of Old Nova Scotia Kitchens" cookbook, and was used in times when certain ingredients such as sugar and butter were expensive and scarce. However, these are very yummy, especially if you like something not too sweet. (You can add more sugar if you like a sweeter flavor.) The thing that makes these extra nice is the brown sugar/cinnamon topping. It almost caramelizes....mmmmmm. You can add in raisins or anything else you like. Please note these have more of a bread like texture, that's the way they're supposed to be. Enjoy!"

I love this recipe, made it many times from my cookbook! Warmed my heart a bit to see this recipe here! Perfect muffins, nice texture, not too sweet, just enough spice.

Very tasty muffin. Just the right amount of sweetness (although I will add the brown sugar/cinnamon to the batter, for flavor, next time, as I don't care much for sugared toppings) The chopped apple keeps these moist. Made for Spring 2010 PAC.

We loved these. I added the brown sugar/cinnamon mix right into the batter and it was perfect for us. I like the fact these were not too sweet. Thanks for the recipe.

Oh, these are sooooo good. I did add the raisins to these little beauties. The sweetness was just right for me. And I did, indeed, like the way the brown sugar almost carmelized. Thnx for sharing your recipe, VoodooMagnolia. Made for PAC Spring 2010. You've been adopted! http://www.recipezaar.com/bb/viewtopic.zsp?t=327498&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
