1 Gather the Ingredients

Your key players are: Seven sliced apples, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, two tablespoons of flour, one teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, one teaspoon lemon zest, two tablespoons of butter, two tablespoons of milk, an egg and two pie crusts.

The type of apples you use depends on the kind of pie you prefer — Granny Smith for tart, Golden Delicious for sweet. Try a mix of different ones to give your pie more flavor.

2 Make the Pie Filling

Preheat oven to 450° F. Combine your sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon zest and salt in a large bowl.

3 Fill the Pie Crust

Line your pie plate with the first unbaked pie crust. Trim the excess crust around the edges using kitchen scissors. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust, piling the apples slightly higher in center. Dot the apples evenly with butter.

4 Pinch the Edges

Moisten the edges of the bottom pie crust with a little water. Place the second unbaked pie crust on top and fold the edges of the top crust underneath the bottom crust. Pinch and shape the edges together using the tines of a fork or use your fingers.

5 Finish the Crust & Bake

In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and the egg. Brush the top of the pie lightly with the egg mixture and sprinkle some sugar over the top. Cut slits in the top crust with a knife to allow steam to escape. Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any juices from spilling.

Bake at 425° F for 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350° F. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden and its juices bubble through the slits.

6 Serve & Enjoy!

Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing it. Cooling will take about 3 hours. You can store an apple pie at room temperature for 2 to 3 days, but we doubt it'll last that long!
