On the 12th day of Cheese-mas, my true love gave to me… 12 goudas gouda-ing, 11 cheddars cheddar-ing… Well, you get the idea.
To the delight of cheese lovers and bargain hunters across the country, Whole Foods announced on Tuesday that it would be bringing back its “12 Days of Cheese” promotion, which shows off some of its favorite cheeses by offering them at a deep discount. Curious customers who visit the dairy department from December 8th to 19th will find a new cheese each day, available for half of its normal selling price.
Oh baby, that means 50 percent off on some real stellar stinkers, including Cypress Grove’s Humboldt Fog, Époisses from Hervé Mons, Vermont Creamery’s Bonne Bouche, Cheddar Montgomery's from Neal's Yard Dairy, organic Enraptured Blue from Rogue Creamery, Hervé Mons Gabietou, Emmi Roth Organic Grand Cru Reserve, Rapin Le Marechal, Cellars at Jasper Hill Hartwell, Ubriaco del Piave, Pleasant Ridge Reserve Uplands Cheese, and Truffle Gouda Klare Melk from Dutch Cheesemasters.
Now that’s a lot of cheese! To sweeten the deal (or at least to make it more pleasant), Whole Foods is doing a wine pairing for each one of its daily dairy discounts. Each wine is under $20, and was selected as part of the grocery chain’s annual list of Sommelier Best in Class Holiday Wines. You can find the pairings here.
So pick a day—any day—and try a new cheese. Or, make like the Christmas carol and work your way up, being sure to savor the overly-dramatic fifth day (fiiiiiiiiiive Enraaaaaaptured Bluuuuuuuuues). It’s the holidays, after all; why not get a little cheesy with your loved ones.
